Orgasm

Orgasm (“orgasmos, excitement, swelling"; also sexual climax) is the sudden discharge of accumulated sexual excitement during a sexual encounter resulting in rhythmic pelvic floor muscular contractions characterized ultimately by sexual pleasure. The orgasm is one of life’s great pleasures, the sad thing is that many women never experience this pleasure. I recently met a with woman who said that although her husband of forty years was wonderful, she had never experienced orgasm.  Many women do not recognize orgasm and therefore are unsure whether or not they have experienced orgasm.

Many women, although very sad and often perplexed, give up on the elusive orgasm not fully appreciating the emotional and physical health benefits of an orgasm.

Some of the health benefits include:

  • A reduced risk of mild depression.
  • A 36% reduction in the risk of heart disease.
  • Boosts the immune system.
  • Fights the effects of chronic pain.
  • Strengthens the pelvic floor to keep everything in place and not leaking.
  • Help to decrease and manage pain

It is important that women are educated that orgasm whether by oneself or with a partner is integral to a healthy life.  Women need to understand that sex is a two way street and the female orgasm is just as important as a man’s.  Also, clitoral stimulation is important as only 30% of women are able to orgasm with penetrative sex.

So remember, orgasm is good natural medicine and it’s importance cannot be overstated especially as women age. Self-exploration is vital in terms of getting to know yourself so that you can communicate what feels good in a partnered relationship. Being mindful in the moment, feeling relaxed and focusing on blood flowing to her genitalia will help a women reach nirvana and live a healthy and happier life.  So go for it ladies! Yes, yes, yes it will be worth it.
